Fantasy Owners Football Challenge 2009/10

EPISODE I * Sept 13th --"Mr. & Mrs. Or Love Doubles" -- Fourteen Fantasy Football Owners [F.F.O.s] raced out of the starting gates in the regular 2009/10 season opener. And it was a great start for the two married couples with both our veteran pair and rookie team racing out to the top four places. Both hubby's tie for the lead and the wives follow at 3rd and 4th.
#8 Mike McKeon getting one of the 3 quickest jumps out of the starting gates, with an impressive 5-2 mark for 500 game points {GPs} and 200 bonus points {BPs}. Mike has been known for being the pace setter in pass competitions and hopes to stay out front {this time}, all the way to his 1st title in his 8th championship campaign.
Our new class of rookies are the hubby and wife team, the Corbetts, with Henry also getting that quick start on a 5-2 record {the same as Mike in GPs and BPs}, both with an overall total of 700 pts to share the early lead.
#11 Leah McKeon [05' 07' titles] part of the league veteran hubby/Boldwife team in her 7th season seeking her 3rd title in an endeavor to catch and Tie Kamill Ulrich {3-time titlist}. She shares the best record start of 5-2, and also bags 100 BPs for a total of 600 pts, at 3rd place.
RookiBolde Judy C is a pleasant surprise; the other half of Team-Corbetts, also gets a good start out the gates with a 4-3 for 400pts and made the first significant move from 7th after the Sunday games, then raced to 4th with a Oakland covered in the MNF game. Judys Raiders lost the game 20-24 to the Chargers, but earned the 100 GPs for the 10pt cover.
After the first week of grid iron clashes the race standings begin to take form and separate into four groups, with the hubby's Mike and Henry along with wife Leah in the 1st tier. Judy leads the 2nd tier at 4th, with a 4-3 mark over #6 Ruth Mills, #12 Roslyn Demoff both with 3-4 marks, both also at 5th in that threesome. All three with 400pts, with Ruth and Roz picking up 100 BPs as share of the "First Win Of The Season" 400 point Bounty captured by the Tennessee Posse {with Mike and.Henry}.
The 3rd tier at 7th place with 3-4 records are #1 Clarence Ulrich, #7 Steve Hayes, #9 Tim Faas and #10 Darryn York, Jr. all with 300pts. The bottom tier are the "Cellar Dwellers" at 11th place with only two wins and 200pts, posting 2-5 marks. And last but certainly not least is our 3-time champion #4 Kamill Ulrich brings up the rear of the bottom group with only 1 win and 100pts. With a 1-6 record he roams the drafty halls of the "Hall of Shame" but avoided induction, with a crucial win by his Eagles 38-10 over the Panthers. Needless to say, the Cellar Dwellers have their work cut out, if they are to keep pace with the rest of the pack. Stay tune for the next episodes

PRESEASON SUMMARY

The preseason test run was just what was needed to work the bugs out of the 7 pick format while of course looking over the teams. But most important it was fun and entertaining with the race between the Downey Dudes and the Yorks battle right down to the last game of the abbreviated season. My greatest pleasure was in my grandson Darryn York, Jr. holding off Steve Hayes {Downey} in a close race to the finish, for the Singles title.
My disappointment was that I didn't hold up my end in the Doubles with a miserable final week record of 2-5. The Downey Dudes {Steve Hayes & Tim Faas} caught and nosed out the Yorks on the final day of the season [in a tight race just like the Singles].
Downey won by one 100pts, which if I at least went 3-4 we would have ended on a tie, which is obviously better to share the point race victory, rather than the lost [which is what we did].
Better still the test run was successful; the seven participating players all liked the additional two teams to give them a couple more chances to get more teams in the playoffs.
The four game sprint was just enough to "wet our whisles" and "lick our chops" for the real deal!

G-Son Darryn, Jr. #1 In Week #2

I was very proud of my grandson Darryn York, Jr. last week. He was first to earn some bonus points with the first near perfect score 5-2. I knew he was in for a good day when his Bengals pulled off a mild upset, beating the Patriots in a defensive struggle 7-6. Then went 5-0 before his Bills got out scored by the GB Pack 21-31, and his Titans got ran out of Texas with a Cowboy roping 10-30. Jr. takes the lead for #1 in week #2 over G-Dad Lorenzo, by that bonus 100 points 950 - 850....You go G-Son!!!

FAMILY & FRIENDS FANTASY FOOTBALL

  • After picking five teams for the last seven seasons, the two additional teams will open up the competition with more variety [since the players all try to pick the top rated teams]. Also the old rule was "you must select two teams from each conference with the 5th pick going either way," this year that rule also has been relaxed, so players can pick as many as the want from either conference, including going with all 7 teams from one or the other. Of course that wouldn't be smart in this competition, because your objective is to get two teams into the Super Bowl, battling each other for the world title, which would assure you a winner from the AFC or the NFC.
  • Only four out of the 7 participating in this test run preseason race took advantage of the HOF game, with three picking the Titans -3, and I took the Bills {with the pts.}. We got the jump on the other three players, with 50pts out the "starting gates" for the Tenn 21-18 win over Buff {tying the pt sprd}.
  • Player Ruth Mills jumped out of the gates with yours truly, for 250pts after the Thursday and Friday games. Then on Saturday and Monday Nite Football, I picked up another 200 to take a 100pt lead over Ruth {and the pack}, with a 5-2-1 record and total of 450pts in Wk#1. Ruth sits right behind me with 350pts. Lorenzo is #1 for Wk #1. Let's see how long I hold the top spot. I challenge you football fans and fanatics to join up on this brand of fantasy football. It's still not to late before the regular season starts. This game is nothing like the Network games, and a ton of fun to play along. Go to my mailbox lyork2@ca.rr.com and request your signup form. Meanwhile stay tuned on who will win this preseason sprint.

FAMILY & FRIENDS FANTASY FOOTBALL

Football Fanatics, I have a hot new game that people are starting to get excited about, but first let me tell you a bit about me. My name is Lorenzo York, but they call me "Dr.Games" because my medicine is large and lethal doses of fun and excitement. I'm also a creator and inovator of games. Back in 2002, I invented a fantasy football game, for my family and friends, to make watching the games on TV more interesting. The object of the competition was to pick five NFL teams and ride them out to the Supr Bowl and see who's teams make it that far. Well, just to show you how this crazy game call football goes, my nephew Kamill Ulrich won our debut competition {in 2002}, at age 8. Then he went on to defend his title two more seasons, for a record setting 3 straight. So is football a kids game or what?! A lady neighbor won the 4th season, before I {a male adult--smile} won my first title in our 5th season. Then Leah {the neighbor} came back and won her 2nd one in 2008, before my brother Clarence finally got his name on the "Lucille Trophy" this year {2008/9 season}. This season we are all pumped up and excited, because I am throwing in a new little wrinkle, with the addition of the college picks. With so many to choose from, this competition is going to be the toughest challenge yet. This is good family fun. Get the kids involved. My family invites your family to join us and help test run this fun competition this season. We extend you a challenge to top our scores. Each week I will update this blog to let you know who is posting the high scores on the world stage. You can also follow the progress of the competition on Twitter under the name "DrGamz." If you think you know a little "something, something" about football, you don't want to miss out on this action. Sign up now in time for the NFL preseason. Find out how you can win big cash prizes.
Go to lyork2@ca.rr.com and look for the exciting details in your box....How good can you pick them?
